RECESSIVE GENES--You need 2 dragons with the same genetic disorder to produce offspring with same disorder.
------------------------------ HYPO--HYPOMELANISTIC This basically means lack of dark pigmentation, hypo means less and melanistic means pigmented. The result of this light coloured animals, some extremal bright in light colour. Some non hypo animals have a similar light colour, but don't carry the clear nails and differ from true hypos, because they lack the heritable genetic disorder that is transferred through generations. The difference is found within the genotype and phenotype.
The genotype (genes) of a hypo is completely different, but the phenotype (the way they look) can be almost identical. A true hypo will carry 20 clear nails, one on every toe and also a true hypo usually has blue/purple shoulder pads and side bars. On a standard animal they will be back nails, black shoulder pads and black side bars
Even one black is classed as a normal HET HYPO--HETEROZYGOUS FOR HYPOMELANISTIC This implies the presence of the hypo gene, with out showing it. These can be standard looking animal, normal black nails, black shoulder pads and darker pigment through out.
TRANS--TRANSLUCENT
These animals are well recognisable by their genetic disorder; they carry large pieces of translucent (transparent) skin. It's most extreme in young animals, with ageing the skin will thicken. However, the translucent appearance remains. They have a solid black alien like eyes, the genetic disorder implies the lack of white pigments. The iridophores (cells that reflect light by using crystalline plates) and leucophores (white skin cells) are missing, they lack white pigment. Light is able to pass through, giving a clear translucent effect.
HET TRANS--HETEROZYGOUS FOR TRANSLUCENT Similar to the het hypos, the het translucent will look like a normal dragon. Normal skin, normal eyes, but I've got and seen other het translucent that are easily recognisable when they are 6 months old. Ive noticed a few aspects of them that can tell me they are hets, but I've only seen this in a few of them.
HYPO TRANS--HYPOMELANISTIC TRANSLUCENT These have 100% hypo gene and 100% translucent gene, these are stunning looking, they have the best of both worlds. Clear nails, lack of dark pigment, lack of white pigment, transparent skin and solid black eyes.
AMERICAN LEATHERBACK (USA SMOOTHIE)--RECESSIVE TYPE
These are the American version of leatherbacks, not a smooth as the European line. But are much smoother than a normal dragon.
CO-DOMINANT GENE
----------------------------- ITALIAN LEATHERBACKS These are the co-dominant line, which are much smoother than the American line (smoothie). There turbecles are much less apparent, which gives them the name "leatherback".
These are much more effective for breeding project's as they are co-dominant they will produce around 50% leatherbacks if bred to a normal. The other 50% of the produced offspring will be normal dragons and are not hets. If 2 leatherbacks are bred together you'll end up with around 25% normal,50% leatherback and 25% silkback. DOMINANT GENE ------------------------------ SILKBACK'S These are the extreme dominant versions of the leatherback, they are produced by breeding 2 leatherbacks together. The silkbacks do not have scales, turbecles, and lateral spines, these are extremely smooth and very delicate. The lack of spines and scales make the colouration much more apparent
